Description

We live in a culture that promises anything is possible. But there are limitations. How do we lean into leading a life of optimism, courage and belonging when the realities sometimes stop us in our tracks? In this talk, Kate Bowler, Ph.D.—New York Times bestselling author, Duke University professor and incurable optimist—will share her take on Eckerd’s 2022–2023 College Program Series theme of Courage and Belonging. She’ll help us search for a way forward as she mines the wisdom (and absurdity) of our modern “best life now” advice industry, which offers us exhausting positivity, trying to convince us that we can out-eat, out-learn and out-perform our humanness. Her latest memoir, No Cure for Being Human (And Other Truths I Need to Hear), grapples with her cancer diagnosis, her ambition and her faith as she tries to come to terms with the challenges and realities of achieving health, wealth and happiness. Sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Life Burchenal Lecture Series Endowment and the Eckerd College St. Pete Center for Civic Engagement and Social Impact. Please join us for “Life After Perfect,” Monday, November 7, 2022, 7 p.m., in Fox Hall at Eckerd College. This event is free and open to the public. To reserve your seat, please RSVP here on Eventbrite.
