Bethel Police Roll Out New Patch Design

BETHEL, CT — The police will soon be sporting new patches on their uniforms. A redesign of the cloth badge begun around four years ago has at last been finalized. The new design still incorporates the American flag, bald eagle and black -and-gold coloring of the current patch — which dates back to the 1970s — but the seal for the Town of Bethel has now replaced the Connecticut seal. This design choice represents "a renewal of our promise and dedication to the members of our community," the police posted to social media. The redesign process was started by retired Chief Jeffrey Finch, and shepherded to completion by his successor Chief Stephen Pugner. "It is our intent and our hope that these patches will always signify safety, service, and comfort to all those who should witness it," the Department posted on Facebook. The new patches will begin to appear on the uniforms of officers this month, with a full transition scheduled to be completed by Sept. 1.
