PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Through the Small Farm Institute (SFI) lead by Agriculture and Natural Resources (AgNR) within Prairie View A&M University College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) Cooperative Extension Program (CEP), the Urban Agriculture Program will host the first state Urban Agriculture Convention November 10, 2022. The convention will be located at the Power Center in Houston Texas from 9am-3pm. The event will provide free vendor opportunities and free meals to attendees. Multiple informative presentations, speakers, and demonstrations will occur during the convention. The Urban Agriculture unit has received a $500,000 grant to partner with the Texas USDA NRCS for 3 years. This partnership will bring more resources to Urban Farmers to enhance food security & conservation in Urban Texas Cities. The grant will encourage producers to not only seek USDA funding, resources, enroll in technical programs that the agency offers farmers. A highlight of this three-year partnership is for urban Texas producers to receive small grants to enhance their operations. The Urban Agriculture unit will partner with under served limited resource farmers, agricultural organizations, and policy makers to implement programs and educate them on developing urban agriculture opportunities. The Cooperative Extension Program encourages schools, farmers , community organizations, small businesses, churches, and agricultural advocates to attend.
