It's Blue Jean Benefit Breakfast time! Join us for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and an opportunity to learn about and support Mission:City's work to reduce the child poverty rate, reduce unemployment, and reduce high school dropout rates in the Brighmoor neighborhood in the city of Detroit. (Wear your fave blue jeans to this casual event) ----------------------------------------- History of the Program (www.missioncity.org) Mission:City is the community center for City Covenant Church. It is located in the city of Detroit in the wonderful community of Brightmoor. Although two-thirds of our population falls below the poverty line, with most living off of less than $7000 per year, they are resilient and resourceful. As a result of the challenges that our families face on a daily basis, we have served to be a staple in the community for the last 10 years providing ongoing, free resources. Our programs/services are based on our four pillars: Education, Employment, Health, and Financial Literacy. Additional programs include but are not limited to: medical and dental, legal services, computer literacy programs, employment trainings, tutoring and mentoring, and our Hot meals Program. Since 2010, we have provided tutoring and mentoring year-round for grades K-12th helping students gain confidence academically and socially. With community support we provide yearly summer camp for six weeks to over 100 children in Brightmoor exposing them to music and the arts, healthy eating demos, drama and acting from a professional coach, choreographed dance and much more. Because of camp, the children are able to connect with others while learning to improve their communication and interactional skills in a safe, fun environment. Through our collaboration with Seven Mile Music at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor we experienced some of the best summer concerts ever. We are committed to helping to create a community of independence one person, one family, and one street at a time.
