SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A second mountain lion has been spotted slinking about the streets of Santa Cruz County. The first big cat was spotted last week in the Westside Santa Cruz area, in the area of Mission and Bay streets, near the northern end of Leary Lagoon. Residents near the lagoon contacted the Santa Cruz Police Department last Thursday and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived, sedating the mountain lion, and transporting it to receive a medical evaluation and be relocated. The animal was malnourished, said local nonprofit Wildlife Emergency Services. Another sickly big cat was spotted this week about eight miles north in Ben Lomond, near Newell Creek, said Wildlife Emergency Services. The nonprofit is concerned about the animal's condition. "A desperate cat is a dangerous cat," it wrote on Facebook. People are urged to keep an eye out and report sightings to Wildlife Emergency Services at 831-498-9453, which said it is sharing information with the fish and wildlife department.
