Join the Friends of Normandy Park Foundation, the City of Normandy Park, and families and community members around the region for tree planting and invasive species removal events at Marine View Park in Normandy Park, WA! We’re hosting six, family-friendly events starting in September 2022 on the Second Saturdays thru March. SECOND SATURDAYS 2022: 9/10, 10/08 & 11/12 SECOND SATURDAYS 2023: 1/14, 2/11 & 3/11 Hurry, space is limited, so reserve your space now! Foreign language interpretors are available. Please bring your favorite gloves and tools. If you don't have them tools, supplies, trees/shrubs, education and snacks will be provided for these fun tree planting events! Plant trees, remove invasive species, and learn about the environment! Important Note: September 10 & October 8 dates will focus on invasive species removal, saving established trees covered in ivy and preparing the ground for planting. Tree planting will happen at November-March monthly events when the ground has more moisture to support new plants and trees. Learn: • How to help the environment • Best practices for planting trees and shrubs • How you can impact air quality and climate change • Have Fun! We have a Scavenger hunt with environmentally friendly crafts! • The Environmental Science Center will be available for educational programming THEMES BY DATE 9/10/22- September Salmon in the Trees: Find out how this famous fish can climb trees, and create a unique tree ring print to take home! Activities: Salmon Dissection & Tree Prints 10/08/22- October Fall in the Forest: Learn about autumn and find out the science behind why deciduous leaves change color, then create a journal to remember your leaves by, just don’t leaf it behind! Activities: Why Leaves Change Demo & Leaf Rubbings 11/12/22- November Macro Mayhem: Macroinvertebrates are aquatic insects that are important to stream ecosystems, come on a wet bug hunt with us and then build your very own bug to take home! Activities: Macroinvertebrate Exploration & Build-A-Bug Craft 1/14/22- January Feeling Pine: Ever wonder why some trees stay green all winter? Find out, and then try a cup of Pine Needle Tea! Activities: Evergreen Adaptations & Brewing Pine Needle Tea 2/11/22- February Flyin’ February: Celebrate birds leading up to the Great Backyard Birdcount! Learn some common backyard birds and then dissect an owl pellet. Activities: Bird Walk & Owl Pellet Dissection 3/11/22- March Wonderful Water: Develop a fascination with precipitation by learning about the amazing properties of water and how water supports life on earth! Then create a colorful bookmark using the science of chromatography. Activities: Water Science & Chromatograms Have questions?
