SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Health reported 520 additional coronavirus cases Thursday.
The latest report brings the countywide case count to 27.017.
The county reported no additional coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, leaving its COVID-19 death toll at 234.
There were 171 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in San Mateo County as of Thursday, of which 39 were being treated in intensive care units.
Elsewhere in the Bay Area and beyond, the United states set a record for coronavirus-related deaths for a second straight day, The Washington Post reports.
The nation recorded over 4,000 COVID-19 deaths Thursday, a day after 3,915 deaths were recorded.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's issued a grim forecast with the United States projected to top 400,000 deaths by the end of this month, CNN reports.
The forecast projects between 405,000 and 438,000 deaths by Jan. 30 according to the report.

There have been 2,546,996 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 28,167 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Thursday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States had 21,538,021 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 364,691 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Thursday afternoon.
