Description
As a small token of appreciation for our donors and community, the Assyrian Aid Society of America Chicago Chapter is excited to invite you to join us for “A Night with Lamassu” Reception at the Oriental Institute in Chicago on Saturday, October 22, 5:30-7pm. Your support has allowed us to continue delivering on our mission to promote the preservation of Assyrian people in our indigenous lands. Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful sponsors, this event is free to attend. We wanted to create an opportunity for us to express our thanks to you in person, foster connection and networking, and provide you with some updates on our work. We will also be raffling a few prizes, including a print from the amazing Assyrian artist Paul Batou, for those who make donations at the event. Light appetizers and drinks (water, beer, white wine) will be available, as will valet parking. Cocktail attire is encouraged. Due to space limitations of the venue, we are requiring registration for the event. If you would like to make a donation to the Assyrian Aid Society of America, please visit: https://assyrianaid.org/#donatenow. We are also excited to announce the talented Rachel Sarah Thomas will be providing the evening's entertainment. Rachel is an American singer and songwriter based in Chicago, where she was born to Assyrian parents. Her childhood was dually focused on a western and Assyrian musical education. She studied voice and piano from the age of five, leading her to pursue vocal performance at the University of Michigan. She studied both spoken and written Assyrian language and grew up immersed in the dance, liturgical, and folk music traditions of her Assyrian family. She blends her classical western musical education with the rhythms and vocal styles of her Assyrian roots. She released Petra in 2013, Cuneiform Graffiti in 2015, and has recently finished a book about her grandfather's life. Rachel has an upcoming fusion album of reimagined Assyrian folk songs she created in collaboration with a consortium of Chicago musicians, each with their own multi-cultural musical backgrounds. It is to be released along with her book, in May of 2023.
