Description

In celebration of the new Anna May Wong Quarter, debuting in late October, the National Women’s History Museum, the United States Mint, and the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative, invite you to join us at the Paramount Theater at Paramount Pictures for a special screening of Wong's classic film, Shanghai Express, followed by a panel discussion featuring Nina Bongiovi, producer; Ventris C. Gibson, director, U.S. Mint; Dr. Theodore “Theo” S. Gonsalves, curator of Asian Pacific American History, National Museum of American History; and Jennifer Herrera, vice president of external affairs, National Women’s History Museum, moderated by Andrea Kalas, senior vice president, asset management, Paramount Pictures. Considered the first Chinese American Hollywood movie star to gain national and international recognition, Anna May Wong will be featured on the fifth and final quarter in the American Women Quarters™ Program to be struck and released in 2022. With a career spanning motion pictures, television, and theatre, Wong faced discrimination in Hollywood and continually championed the need for increased representation and more multi-dimensional roles for Asian American actors. Wong left a lasting legacy for Asian American women in the entertainment industry. The event is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required. Doors open at 7 p.m. Please allow extra time to go through security. Additional details will be provided in advance of the event. Please note: Each person in your party must register for their own ticket.
