Description

On Friday, November 11, join us in welcoming Mike Sokol for a discussion about Hagerstown Centenarian Houses that Came in a Box (From Sears!) A resident of Hagerstown for 60 years, Mike Sokol, currently resides in the first house he bought on Funkstown Hill. Hagerstown features great old houses with striking architecture, but some of these arrived to local residents as nothing more than supplies in a box! Join Mike Sokol as he shares about Hagerstown's 100 year old kit houses that Sears & Roebuck sold to local residents, and which some of your parents and grandparents built themselves. These house kits were available from 1908 until 1940, and Sears advertised that anyone could assemble a Sears Home for themselves. Hear about Hagerstown's own homes built from Sears house kits and how to identify these locally built houses that came in a box. This month’s featured cocktail is: The Southside Cocktail! A refreshing and minty cocktail with the perfect balance of savory and sweet. Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d' oeuvres will be served! Culture & Cocktails 2022 has been made possible by the generous support of the James and Mary Schurz Foundation.
