SAN DIEGO, CA — The woman who was fatally shot Wednesday when rioters stormed into the U.S. Capitol was from San Diego, according to news reports. Insurrectionists forced their way into the Capitol, pausing the Electoral College certification of Joe Biden as the next president. Members of Congress were evacuated as violence escalated. KUSI News confirmed Ashli Babbit, a 14-year veteran of the U.S. Military, was shot and killed. The news station said she was identified by her husband, a San Diego man, as the woman who died in the Capitol shooting. As reported by the Associated Press, police said the woman who was killed was part of a crowd that was breaking down the doors to a barricaded room where armed officers stood on the other side. She was shot in the chest by Capitol Police and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. KUSI reported Babbit served four tours with the U.S. Air Force. She was a strong supporter of President Donald Trump, her husband told the San Diego news station. DC Police confirmed Ashli Babbitt, 35, died of a gunshot wound. Contrary to news reports, police listed her city of residence as Huntington, Maryland. Police in the nation's capital said three other people died from medical emergencies during the long protest on and around the Capitol grounds.
