Join Breanna Martinico, Human-Wildlife Interactions Advisor, and Jaime Carlino, Barn Owl Research Team, for a seminar and robust discussion of the benefits of predatory birds (barn owls and hawks) for pest management in agroecosystems. Predatory birds provide biological control of vertebrate pests. The seminar will cover important aspects such as where to site barn owl nest boxes to improve occupancy and how to use raptor perches to increase usage and improve biological control. Speakers will discuss the biology and population dynamics of barn owls, and their role in management of rodent pests. Similarly, raptor biology, hunting behavior and diet will be discussed to improve understanding of which pests and the levels to which they are controlled by raptors.
