The days surrounding Día de los Muertos transcend worlds: the worlds of the living and the dead, the worlds of Europe and Latin America, the worlds of today and yesterday. Día de los Muertos is a loving, glorious celebration of life and death.
Día de los Muertos originated among the ancient Mesoamerican peoples, who emphasized honoring their ancestors. Today’s commemoration blends indigenous celebrations with teachings of Catholicism.
Discover the rituals and the multifold meanings of a tradition when the veil separating worlds is thin, when perhaps it is possible to symbolically commune with loved ones on the night that their souls return for a visit.
Prior to the start of the talk, Ambassadors International Ballet Folklorico will present a performance.
This event is free with registration.
Presented in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
This event made possible in part by funding from a Houston City Initiative Grant
