Re: Yes to an open border?

Your thinking falsely portrays the problem. The crime syndicates and cartels are not "the immigrants", they're 2 *completely* separate groups, even though fear mongering nationalists and right wing xenophobes always try to blend them into one big mass that has to be fought and eliminated because it poses a vital threat. And I've never heard saying we shouldn't have a border, that's pure exaggeration just to amp up the fear mongering. The crime syndicates and cartels exist and function regardless of whether there are immigrants, and regardless of whether borders are open or closed. They weren't created by immigrants or by borders, open or closed, and fixing problems about immigrants and borders isn't going to fix problems about the crime syndicates and cartels (who BTW instead of being "the immigrants," threaten, exploit, and victimize the immigrants just the same as they do everyone else), nor problems about drugs, which also usually get dragged into this at some point or other. Your point about our social and moral failures in addressing the plight of vets and other downtrodden and suffering of our own is quite true and well taken, but the choice you present is a false one: no one's providing salvation to strangers while turning our backs on our vets and others, instead, our screwed up priorities and lack of will substantially fail *both* groups, even if in both groups there are some people who are being helped.
