An opportunity to learn more about the innovative NYSDOT Local Hire Program for the Interstate 81 viaduct construction project.
The Local Hire Program provides an incentive payment of up to 15% for the recruitment and employment of local residents who may have recently experienced economic hardship and/or barriers to employment. Who should attendLocal community and faith-based leaders, potential job applicants who meet the NYSDOT Local Hire Program qualifications, and other parties who may help foster community well-being and revitalization focused on employment to local residents.
The program is available to residents of zip codes: 13202, 13203, 13204, 13205, 13207, 13208, 13210, 13224, 13290, and residents of the Onondaga Nation territory, and locations within zip codes 13206 and 13214 that are also within the City of Syracuse.
Training Programs and EligibilityThe I-81 Local Hire Initiative will need laborers, carpenters, iron workers, equipment operators, truck drivers, etc., and NYSDOT is working with several workforce partners to provide training through apprenticeships and on-the-job training programs. No prior highway construction work experience is required to be eligible for being selected for our training programs or employment opportunities. This is a public works / prevailing wage rate project.
