Bioactive components found exclusively in human milk provide both anti-inflammatory benefits and biologic properties that support immune system development and maturation. Our discussion will review best practices regarding the pasteurization and bio-protection of human milk and human milk-based products for the NICU population. The role of these biologic factors in preventing comorbidities and improving patient outcomes will be described. Prehab for Nurses: It’s Been a Year! Objectives • Describe three stressors experienced by the NICU nurse over the past 3 years • Identify two symptoms of “Compassion Fatigue Syndrome” for healthcare staff • Define the concept of “prehab” as it applies to members of the neonatal staff and team • List three “selfcare” activities that the Health care professions can utilize as “prehab” Topic Description Health care professionals have been living and working with significant stressor over the past three years. Work experiences have undergone rapid change, short staffing ratios, personal risk, and profound fatigue. Our session will identify sources of personal and professional stress and provide a repertoire of self, and professional care interventions to support the health care professional.
