Thanks to Dove and the CROWN Coalition, 18 states have signed the Crown Act into law, making race-based hair discrimination illegal. L. Lashley has joined the movement to ensure that Mississippi follows suit. She is spearheading a natural hair and fashion event, the 2023 Crown and Glory Beauty Expo (CGBE), supporting Dove and the CROWN Coalition. It is important to L. Lashley that CGBE, scheduled to take place during Black History Month, be held in the Farish Street Historic District, a cultural mecca and famous site for fighting injustices during the Civil Rights movement. L. Lashley believes that the symbolism behind the Alamo Theater, on Farish Street, fits the purpose of the event. One key goal of CGBE is to raise awareness of the CROWN Act in Mississippi and the history that prompted inspirationalist, Faith Fennidy, to speak out about her own personal experiences with hair discrimination at school. Fennidy will attend the CGBE, where she will be honored as a special guest.
