Description of Course Being “Test Driven”
Real Unity’s state-approved course “Learning to Comply with Tennessee’s Prohibited Concepts in Curriculum and Instruction Law” is a day-long session that explains the statute’s requirements (enacted in 2021) and how it impacts school districts. The course is open to all new and experienced school board members and is designed to help them:
• understand Tennessee’s “prohibited concepts in curriculum and instruction” law
• interpret the philosophy underlying the prohibited concepts (e.g., critical race theory)
• recognize these concepts in curriculum and instruction
• relate prohibitions to Civil Rights laws and protections
• distinguish between the prohibited concepts and “hard truths” of American history
• discuss these concepts with school administration, parents and the community
Why this Course is Needed
We believe school board members who develop a clear understanding of this law can avoid many potential problems in their districts. This course will help them be proactive in their efforts to address these prohibited concepts in schools.
School Board Member Training Requirement in TN
Tennessee state law requires school board members to participate in annual state-approved development opportunities. Completion of this course will fulfill seven (7) hours of these mandatory training requirements.
