Description

Creating a multigenerational family business is a goal for many, but the steps to finding success can be challenging. Whether its family dynamics, scalability, generational issues or business success, marrying family, business and ownership together take extra work, both on the business and the family. That’s why a partnership of the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC), Metropolitan Economic Development Association (Meda), Neighborhood Development Center (NDC), Northside Economic Opportunity Network (NEON) and the University of St. Thomas Family Business Center are working together to host a Black Family Business Success panel discussion. The event is hosted at UROC on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m., and will feature three successful Black family businesses from our community. Attendees will learn how the Baylor, Williams-Dillard and Wallace families have been able to lay a foundation to create multigenerational success, build a legacy, manage unique relational issues in and outside of each generation, and how to find business success. This event is free and targeted to Black and other family businesses of color, who’d like to engage with other family businesses, learn from the successes and challenges facing Black family businesses in our region, and leave with ideas of how to better position their business for generational success. Panelists Tim Baylor, Founder, JADT Group, 1st generation leaderTracey Williams-Dillard, CEO, Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, 3rd generation leaderJoseph Wallace, CEO, Independent Packing Services, President, 2nd generation leaderNetworking 3:30-4 p.m. Panel Discussion 4-5 p.m. Food provided by Milton's, a family business
