Description

The Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) invites you to join us for an evening of artist talks with current artist-in-residences Ryan Cardoso and Eli Farinango. Cardoso and Farinango will be discussing their ongoing projects. Following the talk will be a brief Q&A with both artists. About the Artists Ryan Cardoso is a visual artist exploring the portrait and its importance in archiving the elegance, domesticity, and relationships of Blackness. His work centers around the image and the moving image with the intention to create documents that archive what it means to exist as a first-generation African American. Using a wide range of tools from analog photography, collected family images, archived family video, iPhone video, screen recordings, and recorded sound, Cardoso is able to create a diverse collection of works that exercise different styles. Eli Farinango is a Kichwa artist and visual storyteller, born in Kichwa territory (Quito, Ecuador) and raised in Turtle Island. Through her practice she explores the vastness and beauty of the healing journey making intentional space to reclaim ancestral memory through image making. Eli uses family archives, multiple exposures and collaborative image making to document the Kichwa diaspora living in North America through her long term project, Runa Kawsay. She is currently based in Lenapehoking (New York City). When and Where This talk will take place at CPW’s facilities at 474 Broadway in Kingston, NY from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required to attend.
