To raise funds to support www.joinATLAST.com and La Tiendita, The Jelly Queens will be hosting a series of dinners featuring chef friends from the World Food Championships (WFC). Imagine a little store at the fork in the road of a Texas town with a vision to embody the ideals above, while inspiring entrepreneurship and leadership in area high school students. La Tiendita, "The Little Store", is the brainchild and heartbeat of Mckinney's favorite community volunteer, Jason Hernandez. Jason is determined to create a wave of goodness for McKinney - and La Tiendita is just the beginning. La Tiendita will provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and a host of healthy products to McKinney's only food desert. In addition, this little oasis will give children a safe place to play, a fun place to learn, the opportunity to run their own lemonade stand and allow them to create and tend to a children's garden. The healthy products will be produced by high school students participating in the ATLAST www.joinatlast.com program (through paid internships). They will learn how to grow and create farm to table products in a preservatory which is being created in conjunction with The Jelly Queens. Their training will include preserving, labeling, marketing, legal requirements, and they will finish their internship with how to operate and manage a small business and nonprofit, all while feeding their community.
