Buxton Books Civic Engagement Series is proud to present a conversation on journalism with Adam Parker, Jennifer Berry Hawes, and Rickey Dennis. In support of Parker’s new book, Us: A Journalist’s Look at the Culture, Conflict and Creativity of the South, please join these veteran journalists for a lively discussion on how journalism - and facts - are more important now than ever before.
After the program, we will open the floor to a question and answer portion so come with your hardest hitting questions! This is a FREE event, but we ask that you reserve your spot through the form here. You can pre-order your books through Eventbrite, and we will have more on hand for sale at the event. After the Q&A, Parker will be signing and personalizing copies of the book.
About the book:
Veteran journalist Adam Parker has covered just about everything for The Post and Courier, though he has spent most of his time writing about race, religion and the arts. His reported articles are not of the standard kind. The stories delve deep, investigating much of what informs life in the American Southeast. They are issue-focused and convey the experiences and perceptions of all kinds of people, from civil rights leaders to Cistercian monks. Us: A Journalist’s Look at the Culture, Conflict and Creativity of the South is a collection of in-depth articles published by The Post and Courier over the course of nearly 20 years, and it reveals the breadth and scope of Parker’s uncanny ability to pull back the scrim and take a hard look at ourselves and our community.
About Adam Parker:
Adam Parker has covered many beats and topics for The Post and Courier, including race and history, religion, and the arts. He is the author of Outside Agitator: The Civil Rights Struggle of Cleveland Sellers Jr., published by Hub City Press.
