Description

Captain is ready for a good home. My sister and I got Captain in June, he was malnourished and neglected, we didn’t have the heart to decline giving him a chance. We have met our goal with him. He has since approximately gained 300 lbs, The vet estimated he is 20-22 year old Apaloosa/Quarter horse mix, he has been given all necessary vaccines, teeth have been floated, fecal test came back negative for parasite, no signs of foundering (X-rays have not been done) however he walks and runs without hesitation, he is older so he does get sore but over all he is now in decent physical condition. Captain is a sweet horse but needs work, he has been broke and was once rideable but due to his health and neglect he will need refreshing and continued efforts to gain muscle before any kind of serious riding is done with him, my sister recently got on his back while I walked him and he did great so his potential is good but needs a human with the experience and time to give him that. What he has given us in return in the 3 months we’ve had him is very impressive so I can say with confidence he will be a great mellow riding partner some day. Things that need to be known about Captain, he tends to be jumpy while tending to his hind legs during cleaning and trimming although the ferrier and vet have both said all his hooves are in good shape he will need continued training to allow easier access to them however he is improving and gaining trust while receiving hoof care, dorm gel was used successfully to calm him down. Also, Captain needs to be separated from other animals while eating, he is protective of his food after being malnourished for so long. Send me a message if interested. I can bring him to you and will require proof he is going to a good home. We are asking $1,200
