Description

The History of Ikebana & Evolution of the Ohara School: Lecture & Demonstration The classical art of Japanese flower arranging, Ikebana, was introduced in Japan in the 6th century by Chinese Buddhist missionaries who had formalized the ritual of offering flowers to the Buddha. Based on a harmony of simple linear construction and an appreciation of the subtle beauty of flowers and natural materials, Ikebana has separated into several major schools according to historical periods and differing theories of artistic composition. Join Joe Rotella, a Third Term Master in the Ohara School of Ikebana, as he shares a brief history of Ikebana, including the development of the Ikenobō, Ohara, and Sogetsū schools. Joe will focus on the Ohara school and finish the presentation by demonstrating the creation of a classic Ohara arrangement. Sunday, November 13, 2022 2 PM to 3:30 PM Free for Friends of the Kelton House (enter discount code to get free admission) $7 non-members Tickets are available online at
