I absolutely hate to do this but I'm at my wits end. We adopted Neko (male tuxedo) from a local shelter in 2019 and then found Batz (female all black) in 2021 and took her in.
Neko cannot stand Batz. Batz is indifferent to Neko. Spring of this year, one of them started peeing around the house. I don't know which is doing it. We added more litter boxes but it didn't help. I tried cat calming collars and scents but that didn't help either. Finally we tried a cat door (they are inside/outside). That worked wonders! No more peeing whatsoever!
However, a few weeks ago a racoon came in the house through the cat door and local strays have also wandered in. For this reason we started closing the cat door at night only. Commense peeing in the house again...
We love our cats but can't keep finding pee throughout the house. The cats would need to be rehomed to separate homes. They both have been around children ages 4 and up.
Batz would make a great barn cat or indoor/outdoor cat. Since she was a stray she has more of her hunting instincts than Neko.
Neko would do fine being an indoor only cat but is currently indoor/outdoor. He would also do best in a home with no other pets. My daughter was rather rough with how much she loved him so I would love to see him go to a home that is more gentle.
Both cats are lovers but Batz is only on her own time. Neko loves attention but is skittish so it will take him time to warm up to someone new.
I am more than happy to answer any other questions.
