Description

What is absinthe, and why the bad reputation? This class explores the story of the ingredient that Hemingway described as "that opaque, bitter, tongue-warming, brain-warming, idea-changing liquid alchemy." In the late nineteenth century, absinthe enjoyed popularity among Parisian artists and other creative types, from Picasso to Toulouse-Lautrec, and then was banned. Today, absinthe is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Learn about the history of absinthe and its journey and influence on American cocktail culture while learning to make the drinks. Shake, swirl, and sip in style as you hear the stories, learn the techniques, and develop your palate. This interactive cocktail class combines history and mixology. Join owner/bar manager Aaron Hein of Emma Rue's as he walks guests step-by-step through making the drinks. Cocktail historian, Renée Cebula of Raising the Bar, tells the history and stories of how this ingredient landed in classic American cocktails. Step up to bartending stations with all the necessary tools, fresh-made and prepped ingredients, and vintage glassware. Ticket includes class booklet, three crafted drinks, mixology and history lessons, appetizer, and that je ne sais quoi. Tickets are $85 per person. Must be 21 and over. Class is limited to 24 guests.
