Thank you for your interest in attending our Charlotte Black History Documentary premier event.
We’re excited about the community coming together to engage in an educational experience that teaches about the significant impact of African-Americans in Charlotte. Our documentary is called "Telling Our Story" because too often our history isn't taught in schools and our excellence isn't highlighted in the media. We want to change that narrative.
Our names are Maya McClain and Morgan Winston, and we are 9th-graders in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. We have bright minds and big ideas. We’re passionate about creating social change in our community. We are both members of Girl Scouts Troop 599/Hornets’ Nest Council. For our Silver Award project, we wanted to have an impact on Charlotte. Thus, we created a documentary highlighting African-American history, culture and excellence in Charlotte. The Silver Award is the second-highest award of the Girl Scouts (USA). It’s earned by completing a service project that benefits the community.
We look forward to seeing you at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2022, at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Paid parking is available at the Duke Energy Visitor Center parking garage located at 527 S Church St, Charlotte, NC 28202.
