Press release from the Town of Davidson: Posted on: January 4, 2021 Posted on: January 4, 2021 Davidson Police Complete Investigation in Response to Attempted Abduction Wednesday, January 6, 2021, 6:00pm Conclusion of Case: The results of the investigation found no evidence or statements, including the statements of persons involved and witnesses, of a criminal intent to abduct a child. The investigative findings included learning of the involvement of more and older minors in the attempt to obtain tobacco products. The misdemeanor offenses of Sale or Distribution of Tobacco Products to a Person under the age of 18 years, Purchase of or Accepts Receipt of Tobacco Products by a Person under the age of 18 years, and Sending or Assisting a Person less than 18 years of age to Receive Tobacco Products has been closed with no charges on any juvenile or adult in the interest of justice and best handled by the families involved. Monday, January 4, 2021, 4:25pm Davidson investigators continued the investigation throughout the day today. The detectives learned the occupants of the vehicle in the Runnymede community of Davidson were looking for a young person that communicated with them through social media. There was no intent to abduct or harm the child. Davidson Police Chief Penny Dunn stated, "The Davidson Police Department will always diligently and immediately investigate serious allegations such as this initial report." She continued, "We do not move as quickly as social media, but our objective is to learn the facts through quality police work. The process can take time, but we owe that time to those reporting allegations and to those accused of a crime." Monday, January 4, 2021, 1:20pm Davidson Police Officers responded to a reported attempted abduction of a child on January 3, 2021 at approximately 3:30p.m. in the Runnymede development in the Town of Davidson. A vehicle with two men reportedly stopped at a stop sign and spoke to an eleven-year-old child as the child passed the vehicle. The vehicle was stationary for a couple of minutes before turning around, passed the child and drove around the child's father, who was standing in the road, before exiting the development. The statements made by an occupant of the vehicle, reported to police by the child and parents, were innocuous and not threatening or enticing. The intent of the vehicle occupants is unknown, but our investigation at this time has found no evidence of a criminal offense being committed by the occupants of the vehicle.
