Learning to create those "rock islands"

Mid-70's man settling in to a very nice final home, lots of oak trees on the property, they don't allow much grass to grow. I need to find some buddy fairly knowledgeable in locating and placing those nice attractive stones in picturesque "island" settings to serve as the decor instead of green grass. Help me find available stones, place them here on the front yard.
