Story’s Lighthouse provides in-kind housing to those in need of a supportive, educational, and welcoming environment to embrace their recovery and realize their own potential. We offer an alternative to the heavy-handed punitive approaches and in its place; high quality mental health services, group and individual therapy, substance abuse treatment, intensive case management, and a holistic approach to healing. The founders Demone Cook, and Shelton McElroy have worn the labels of felons, homeless, addicted, and other demeaning terms to describe people who are disempowered by a structure they did not create. Today Demone and Shelton are described with the empowering terms of, founders, graduates, and recovered, to name a select few. These titles were not earned independent of community, policy, and opportunity, and guide them in their mission of social equity. Story’s Lighthouse is what justice looks like in action. It’s designed out of the lived experience of each founders' transformation. We intend to immerse each seeker that crosses our threshold into an environment conducive of change and enlightenment, all while embracing and in collaboration with the community. Music will be provided by the legendary, Will Oldham/ Bonnie "Prince" Billy! This is an intimate setting and space is limited. Dinner will be catered by Ramsi's Cafe on the World and cocktails and mocktails will be available for purchase. The suggested donation is $50-$100 which includes dinner and the performance, but please pay what you can. 100% of ticket proceeds go to the remaining renovation of this home in West Louisville and donations are tax deductible thanks to our fiscal sponor the Drepung Gomang Center.
