Parents will leave this workshop with the tools to help them better speak with their children about mental health, strategic ways to navigate the school environment, as well as knowing their legal rights (and where to seek support if those rights are being violated.)
The Program:
We will start our day off with Julie Culbertson from The Trustery speaking with us about mental health first aid that every parent would benefit from knowing.
Andrew Schuerman, Ed.D., a representative of GLSEN, will be able to provide insights for how parents can better navigate the school system when trying to find the best support for their children.
We will close out with D.C. Hiegert, Skadden Fellow at the ACLU of Kansas, who will speak more about LGBTQ+ student and LGBTQ+ family rights in schools, and when and how to take legal action. An attorney will speak on the rights of LGBT families and students.
Lunch to follow program.
Child care will be available.
