El Paso design studio, Paradigm Shift, and, an artist collective from Juarez Descatrinados, invite you to celebrate our borderland values and traditions with Esqueletos & Escaleras, a three-day art show dedicated to celebrating Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), going down downtown, at the Artspace El Paso Lofts Gallery, on 601 N. Oregon St. Over the three days, the exhibition will showcase 40-plus curated art pieces centered around the themes and iconography of the colorful Mexican holiday. The Artspace gallery (on the corner of Oregon and Wyoming) will house paintings, photographs, engravings, drawings, and sculptures honoring the holiday, including a 6.5 ft. tall statue of a “Catrina,” the dapper skeleton that is the referential symbol of death in Mexican culture. The Esqueletos & Escaleras schedule: Saturday, October 29th – 12 pm to 9 pm As part of downtown El Paso’s annual Dia de Los Muertos festival and parade. Opening Ceremony at 1 pm. Featuring music, vendors, free food, free wine, and free treats from Howdy Homemade Ice Cream. Monday, October 3rd – 5 pm to 9 pm A special Halloween presentation, complete with candy treats, free wine, and popcorn. Wednesday, November 2nd – 5 pm to 9 pm Honoring the Dia de Los Muertos holiday with a closing reception. All three nights are free and open to the public. Food and refreshments while supplies last. About Descatrinados: An artist collective from Juarez, Chih. Mexico that’s made up of painters, photographers, poets, sculptors, and writers. The collective’s name was chosen to honor Cecilia Briones Zúñiga, nicknamed “La Catrina,” a champion of the Juarez underground art scene.
