TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama lawmakers on Capitol Hill took to social media on Wednesday and Thursday following a historic day of chaos and political theater. In the early morning hours Thursday, with protestors supporting President Donald Trump still scattered around Capitol Hill, Congress voted to certify President-elect Joe Biden's election win after Trump told his supporters to "go home" earlier in the afternoon. While no members of Congress were injured during the riot, the entire nation watched in realtime as the process of certifying the votes grind to a halt, before eventually resuming later Wednesday evening. Here's a look at what Alabama's congressional delegation had to say during and after the riot: Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R): "Yesterday was a sad day for our great country. I strongly condemn the violence and actions we saw from those who stormed the Capitol. It undermines the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, and it has no place in our democracy." Sen. Richard Shelby (R): "Today is a very dark day for our country. I am safe thanks to the protection and swift action by our law enforcement officials. Our Founding Fathers warned against mob rule. Law and order must be established and maintained." Rep. Terry Sewell (D): "For all those who continue to check in on me and my staff, thank you. We are safe. I am trembling, but we are safe! Praise God." Rep. Robert Aderholt (R): "I was on the House Floor this afternoon objecting to the electoral votes with many of my colleagues. We had to evacuate due to a security breach. I ask for your prayers during this time in our nation's history. God has brought this nation through many dark days over the past 240 plus years. We have always been able to settle our disputes peaceably. I believe He will continue to guide & protect this nation. However, as a nation we need to see His guidance in peace. He is in full control!" Rep. Mike Rogers (R): "There is no place for political violence in America. Whether it is from the left or the right, it is abhorrent and wrong. We are a nation built on law and order and must remain so." Rep. Mo Brooks (R): "Please, don't be like #FakeNewsMedia, don't rush to judgment on assault on Capitol. Wait for investigation. All may not be (and likely is not) what appears. Evidence growing that fascist ANTIFA orchestrated Capitol attack with clever mob control tactics." Rep. Jerry Carl (R): "Americans have a right to protest, but violence is never the answer. I'm praying for the safety of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the law enforcement protecting us." Rep. Barry Moore (R): "Lawlessness and anarchy are never the answer. We are - and always will be - a nation of law and order. While I support Americans' 1st Amendment rights, I strongly condemn any and all violence & fully support our brave Capitol Police and LEOs." Follow Patch here for updates or on Facebook and Twitter.
