Woburn Positive Test Rate Hits 9.5%, City Stays High Risk

WOBURN, MA — Nearly 10 percent of Woburn coronavirus tests have been positive over the last two weeks, according to the latest state report. The city had a 9.5 percent positive test rate and 429 new cases over the last two weeks. Woburn remains a high-risk community for the virus. The case count over the last two weeks was lower than last week, but the positive test rate rose from 8.6 percent. The latest cases bring the city to 2,669 cases since March, according to the state. The city is again offering free testing for residents Saturday, this time at the Senior Center. Registration is available here. The latest state town-by-town report designated 219 cities and towns as high risk for the coronavirus in the latest community-level report Thursday, putting nearly two-thirds of the state's 351 communities in the red category. The statewide positive test rate fell to 7.8 percent, down from 8.7 percent on Jan. 1 but still above the level a month ago, 6.2 percent. There were 7,136 new confirmed cases and 71 deaths Thursday.
