Professional painter for small wall

I have a white wall that I’m painting black. The wall is 6’ wide and 8’ tall. There are 4 small shelves that are 6 inches wide each on the wall. I’ll provide the paint that comes with primer. I had a painter here earlier and he said it might take 2 coats of paint, 4 hours or more and that he had to take my shelving off in order to get the job done. In fact, he started removing the shelving without asking me first and then complained he couldn’t do the job. He also brought me a receipt for $85.00 worth of supplies. I’m hoping this job isn’t as massive as he made it out to be because I thought it was a pretty simple task considering the wall is tiny and the property is 400SF.
