Description

The Thirst Project is an organization that raises money to build wells for communities around the world who do not have access to clean drinking water. The average distance to retrieve water in developing communties is 3.75 miles. This journey can be grueling, carrying 5 gallon jugs of water that weigh about 44 pounds when full, in the glaring sun. Many children can not go to school because they have to spend 6-8 hours per day walking for water. Building wells in these communities has extraordinary health benefits, and allows the citizens time to receive and education, or get a job. Mashpee High School Key Club has worked with the Mashpee Commons to create a Walk for Water, in which all proceeds will be benefiting Thirst Project. This is a great opportunity for families to have some fun while helping serve communities around the world. There will be a celebration at the finish line with music, refreshments, and a raffle of Mashpee Commons gift cards that all participants will automatically be entered in.
