Are you interested in learning more about Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) Chapter 31 benefits? The California Transition Assistance Program (CalTAP), in partnership with the Norco College Veterans Resource Center, and VR&E representatives would like to invite service members, veterans, and their families to attend our upcoming briefing which will provide information and resources. A specialist will be live to discuss eligibility, the enrollment process, and answer questions. Agenda 12:00 p.m. - Welcome and CalVet/CalTAP Overview 12:10 p.m. - Local Interagency Network Coordinator (LINC) 12:15 p.m. - VR&E Overview 12:45 p.m. - Question and Answers Below you will find more information about our guest speakers Jana Adams, Training Coordinator CalVet, CalTAP Jana Adams started as the Training Officer in the Human Resources division before she joined the CalTAP team in the Veterans Services division. Jana grew up in the Sacramento area and attended California State University, Chico where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications with an emphasis in Leadership Studies. In her current role, Jana provides information about earned benefits and resources available to service members, veterans, and their families throughout the state of California. Jana provides this information during outreach events at military installations and on higher education campuses throughout the state as well as through video conferencing platforms. Beyond her passion for serving veterans, Jana has continued to volunteer her time as a Panhellenic Advisor within the Greek system at University of California, Davis since 2012. In this role, Jana helps to plan and execute philanthropic events to raise money for various foundations. Merlene Steinbeck, Inland Empire LINC CalVet While finishing her Bachelors degree in Legal Studies, and an Associates degree in Political Science, Merlene Steinbeck worked for the California State Assembly and the House of Representatives.  She became a subject-matter expert in regulations regarding USC Title 38. She has experience with veteran casework, analyzing the challenges veterans face, and recommending changes to the legal codes. Merlene’s experience has given her the ability to become an effective advisor to community partners that provide direct services to veterans. She also provides recommendations to veterans regarding their specific and unique issues. If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) can help. This program—also known as Chapter 31 or VR&E—helps you explore employment options and address education or training needs. In some cases, your family members may also qualify for certain benefits.
