City of Portland, Maine MAINTENANCE WORKER III – STREETS Public Works Department - Streets & Sidewalks - Up to $2,500 Sign On Bonus Available – Schedule to start will be Monday through Friday. Requirements:. Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment; ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely; ability to make minor repairs; good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public; must have good customer service skills; must be able to work outside in all elements of weather; must be willing to work mandatory overtime during winter period; must possess valid Maine Class B driver’s license (may be willing to hire at pay grade 16 and train applicant to get Class B license); must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and lift assessment and pass federally mandated drug test if applicant holds Class A or B license; must have and maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Labor & Trades Union position – Grade 18 – Starting pay range $859.20/week to $918.80/week, based on qualifications and years of experience.
