I have worked in government for a long time and I am now retired. I have an idea on how to pay the high cost of benifits, salaries that are in the state pension system. The answer is to have a City income tax and a commuter tax.
The New York sales tax rate is currently 4%. The County sales tax rate is 4.75%. We could add a 0.25% City tax on everything that is sold so the city makes out. That would round up the Sales tax to 9%. We need to fund our School teachers, Police, Fire and Government Employees.
