Competition InformationAll abilities welcome, 18 and under. No USA Climbing members are allowed. If you are unfamiliar with rope climbing, or have other questions please reference our rulebook, or talk to your athletes coach. - Registration will close on 11/9 at midnight. ***Athletes MUST be a member to be gauranteed a shirt. After all members have received shirts, the remaining will be distributed based on how early each non-member signed up! - All competitors will receive 10 raffle tickets for attending this competition! All raffle tickets will be added up at the championship and entered into a big championship raffle! - There will be an awards ceremony and pizza party following this competition. In addition, we will have an optional lock-in at Summit Norman following the competition! See below for more information. - There will be NO spectating for this competition. If you are interested in watching your athlete climb, please consider volunteering! ***You must attend TWO OR MORE of the rope qualifying events to be able to attend the championship. The championship will be a combination of modified redpoint and onsight format, and will have an award ceremony including all-season awards! Competition Format- Top rope will be in traditional redpoint format and competitors will be able to climb all competition routes (18-25 routes). Competitors top 3 routes will count for their total score. - Climbers will have 3 hours to climb (this 3 hour slot includes warm up time, as there will be no additional climbing time prior to the start of each session). Volunteer judges will be posted throughout the gym. CategoriesCompetitors will be broken up by age and by birth year for placement, and will compete against those in their category and gender. The age category breakdown is as follows by birth year: - Category 1: Born in 2014 or later (youngest) - Category 2: Born in 2012-2013 - Category 3: Born in 2009-2011 - Category 4: Born in 2006-2008 - Category 5: Born in 2004-2005 (oldest) Saturday: Lock-in Participants - Meet at Carrollton at 12:00 pm Competition Check In Opens: 3:15 pm Climbing Begins: 4:00 pm Climbing Ends: 7:00 pm Free Pizza and award ceremony to follow! Sunday: Lock-in Participants - Return to Carrollton by 12:00 pm on Sunday For OK local lock-in participants, pickup will be announced closer to the date! Team Summit Lock-in- Cost: Additional $50 - includes the lock-in, meals, and transportation - There are 30 spots available for our lock-in that will follow the competition! - Lock-in will take place at Summit Norman. Climbers will be transported to Norman following the competition. - Lock-in will be lead by the Director of Youth Programs, Selah Taylor. All coaches guiding this overnight trip have been Safe Sport certified. - Transportation will be included - we will be taking the Team Texas vans - Dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be included This is for Team Summit members ages 11 and older. We will contact families when we get closer as to what to bring, and a more specific schedule! If you feel your athlete is ready for this trip but is under 11, please contact Kati Michaud for an exception! **For those local to Norman who would like to participate in the lock-in, but do not require transportation from the DFW, contact [email protected] for a discount code! VolunteeringYou may not know this but all climbing comps are primarily run by volunteers. As such, we need YOU to volunteer! Here are some things to consider: - The comp can't happen without volunteers. In fact, if there are not sufficient volunteers then the comp end time could be extended and/or the number of routes may be reduced to get all athletes through. - We will try to accommodate when your kids climb to the extent possible. Just indicate your athlete's category and climb time. - Don't worry if you've never done it, we will train you! - There will be NO spectating for this competition. The best way to watch your athlete climb is to volunteer! - You’ll learn what a “dyno” and “gaston” mean and have some climbing lingo at the ready!
