It’s cozy season! Time for flannel sheets, fuzzy socks, spiced tea, and extra sleep. We’ve seen the first frost, and steadily the light is fading. As cold weather approaches so does the art of finding comfort, warmth, and conviviality. “Hygge” a term meaning “to comfort”, is the practice of cozy-making. With the days getting colder and darker, it’s the perfect time to cultivate Hygge in the practice of handiwork, craft, and creativity.  Starting October 30, we’re offering a Hygge event each month through the winter season. In each Hygge we’ll explore a new handiwork craft, from mandala and wreath making, to artful letter writing, quilting, and needlework. As we create we’ll connect to the slower rhythms of self, and to new friends and neighbors around us. These events may include nature gathering walks, creative embodiment exercises, shared stories, and conversational prompts. They’ll all include a warm beverage, light snacks, and a wonderful community.  Kelsy and Kathy Hartley will be your Hygge hosts, bringing their artistic backgrounds together to guide your creativity. These events encourage process over product, and look to handiwork as a means to make connections, play, create, and find a source of vitality.  October Hygge: Mandala Making Sunday, October 30, 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m. $35-45 Merry Barn: 417 River Rd. Edgecomb, ME In this event we’ll explore the change of seasons, and take stock of our own resources. We’ll begin by taking a walk at Dodge Point, feeling into our bodies in nature, while collecting things that call to us. Then, gathering together at the Barn we’ll explore an embodiment exercise, and then with journal or thought prompts on offer, we’ll begin making a mandala. While our minds focus on our connection to nature, the season, and our own systems, we’ll busy our hands and allow our creativity to come through.  Can't wait to see you!
