Description
OVERVIEW: As the state heads into another anticipated drought year, California Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot will join City of Folsom Mayor Kerri Howell, Regional Water Authority (RWA) Executive Director Jim Peifer and other local leaders at Republix Insurance in Folsom to discuss the importance of conservation. They will spotlight the efforts by Republix to save water by upgrading from a thirsty lawn to a beautiful, low-water landscape, as well as highlight the rebates available from local water providers to help others do the same. WHO: • Secretary Wade Crowfoot, California Natural Resources Agency • Nichole Morgan, Board Member, California State Water Resources Control Board • Mayor Kerri Howell, City of Folsom • Jim Peifer, Executive Director, Regional Water Authority • Amy Talbot, Water Efficiency Program Manager, Regional Water Authority WHAT: State and local leaders will highlight a local business--Republix Insurance in Folsom--that upgraded its landscape, inspiring another nearby business to do the same. Together, these businesses are saving limited water resources and, because of their close proximity to the Lower American River, are protecting water quality and habitat for fish by preventing runoff, fertilizers and pesticides from entering the river. WHY: Experts predict that California is heading into a fourth consecutive dry year, even with anticipated levels of normal rain and snow this winter. Replacing lawn with a low-water landscape is an important water conservation option for dealing with drought and the longer-term impacts of climate change, along with other measures such as water banking. Moreover, fall is the ideal time to transform yards into beautiful low-water landscapes and plant trees. The soil is still warm in fall, which helps encourage root growth, but the days are shorter and cooler, so plants require less water than they do in the spring. WHEN: 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 20, 2022 WHERE: Republix Insurance, 503 Natoma Street, Folsom, CA 95630. On-street parking is available.
