Tour Description:This tour is propelled by one deep, prayerful question: How do we hold us well? “Us” could mean you, could mean me, those who are not present, the web of living beings, past and future ones. It could mean our Black, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, Latinx, Asian, immigrant and international communities, or people living different identities or life circumstances than are favored by patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy. It could mean those who are favored. It could mean your loved ones, strangers, or people you will never meet. I don’t have the answers. I just have the questions and a willingness to discover together…through the power of music. The concept for this tour “Hold Us Well” was borne out of my own grief and a feeling of enough-ness...enough with my culturally-systemically induced flimsy boundaries, tolerance of disrespect, abuse, or disregard for my truth and wholeness. Enough with the state of the people of my lineages (Puerto Rican & Iranian) who are, in realtime, living the strongholds of colonialism or oppressive regimes. It’s a plea for a shift out of a consciousness that allows this, any of this. I am supporting the people of my ancestry through this particular journey, but I am interested in YOU receiving care and respect too, no matter who you are. Your well-being is vital to any collective change. So before we show up for others, I ask us to look first at how we show up for ourselves in every relationship, in every setting. I do believe the great fights of our time begin at the deeply personal level. My intention for this tour will express in different ways through each offering, alive to what unfolds. But I summon nothing short of magic, medicine, and justice. If you show up to any of these events, my hope is that whether through listening, singing, drumming, co-creation, or conversation that you fortify a radical self-love, an impenetrable perimeter of self-respect, and feel more committed to holding the same for others. May it be so. ~Shireen Amini Artist Bio:Shireen Amini (non-binary using she / her pronouns) is a Portland-based queer, Puerto Rican-Iranian, Earth-loving artist-activist, singer-songwriter, community song leader, percussionist, and teaching artist.
