Three years ago in December, we held the first Sunrise Gathering, one month after Koa’s passing. It is our intention at the Koa Fund to annually return to the Sunrise Gathering. Each year it will take a new form, growing and evolving with us and the Koa Fund. Two years ago, we formally launched the Koa Fund with the Sunrise anniversary, one year ago we brought the Koa Fund to Instagram and Facebook, and this year we are hoping you’ll join us in person. This year, on December 4th, the Koa Fund is hosting a sunrise-inspired fundraising event, the Sunrise Gathering: Art Swap $50/person donation to the Koa Fund is your ticket to the Sunrise Gathering. Just as it was for the first Sunrise Gathering, Koa’s awe of inherent, often unnoticed beauty is the inspiration for this event. Complementary to AOK Day, the Koa Fund annual Day of Giving on June 21st, the Sunrise Gathering is our annual in-person fundraiser. It is a space to share creations and community, to find joy in surprises, and to financially fuel the upcoming year of partnering with incredible organizations dedicated to helping youth be valiant. We hope you’ll join us this December, inspired by the light of Koa and the sunrise.  Bringing art is requested, but not required. We encourage everyone to bring a sunrise inspired creative expression, in the medium of your choice, to exchange with other swappers in a drawing – make, paint, bake, write, knit, or draw your sunrise swap. Anything goes… be it something created or collected, something new or old, something simple or bold. Take home the headline artist creation, if you’re lucky. Indigenous artist Jason Wesaw, who recently returned from his first solo exhibit in the U.K., is donating our featured sunrise expression, which could be yours if your token is drawn. Tokens can be purchased at the event. Lots of #freeplayjoy will be found by everyone. It wouldn’t be a Koa Fund event without plenty of fun food and drink, creative surprises, and collaborative ways to engage. “Sometimes, more is more, right Mamá?!” $50/person donation to the Koa Fund is your ticket to the Sunrise Gathering.
