The University of Wisconsin - Madison, Department of Animal & Dairy Science, is currently seeking two hardworking, reliable employees to become Animal Care Technician II's at the Dairy Cattle Center, a dairy animal research and teaching facility located in the heart of the UW campus in Madison. The Dairy Cattle Center is home to 84 milking cows which are utilized in various ways to meet the university's research, teaching and outreach mission. This industry leading facility is in need of an employee who is willing to learn, and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail in order to help ensure the highest levels of animal care and the collection of accurate research data. This is a diverse position, involved in all aspects of the research dairy operations, including but not limited to, milking, animal handling, cleaning, feeding, research support, animal health care, routine facility maintenance, and teaching and outreach at the facility. The incumbent in this position must work with limited supervision to ensure all research and operational needs are met through the established standard operating procedures. The incumbent must be skilled at following oral and written instructions as directed by management and research protocols. Scheduling for this position will vary dependent on operational needs, but the general schedule will be from 4:00AM-10:00AM or from 1:30PM-7:30PM four days during the week and a rotating every other weekend schedule. This position will require a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week, but has the potential for a full-time 40 hour a week role depending on the selected candidates preference. A minimum compensation of $18.50/hour and a full benefits package will be offered to the selected candidates and pay at appointment will be based on experience.
