He started singing with the Courville Concert Choir under the direction of the late Willard J. Hines. Working with Mr. Hines, Mikel was taught an rnb/gospel style of singing and performing. In 2005 he transferred to Belleville High School. and joined the Concert Choir. Under the direction of Susan Hiser, Mikel was taught a classical style of singing and performing. Mrs. Hiser helped him learn the tools necessary to become a powerful opera singer. Mikel has gone on to States Solo/Ensemble twice, and has also won countless awards for his voice, helpfulness, and willingness to learn and teach. Mikel enjoys listening to music from every genre. If you scrolled through his Apple music playlist you may see names like Whitney Houston, Bee Gees, Blake Shelton, Calvin Harris, Jasmine Sullivan, and Rob Zombie. Mikel is known for his soothing voice, warm tone, and harmonies. Many have said he is todays Luther Vandross. Mikel signed with CORNBREAD PRODUCTIONS in 2022. Frank Imani Jamal or “Cornbread” as he likes to be called, has over 38 years’ experience from TV, magazines, music, and film. CORNBREAD PRODUCTIONS has endless opportunities for Mikel. Since signing with CORNBREAD PRODUCTIONS, Mikel has been able to enhance his skills in all facets of the entertainment industry including modeling and TV. Mikel has always wanted one thing, and that is the ability to share his gift with the world. He also wants to spread the message that you can do anything you want, as long as you pray and believe in yourself. Currently Mikel is working in the studio on original music with some local producers in the city of Detroit. He will also be auditioning for Perilous Times, an award-winning classic play that has been in production for 30 years here in the City of Detroit.
