Description
It is October and fall is in full swing. Colorful leaves, cooler air - hello sweaters and hoodies! With new seasons come new wines to match. When you think fall and winter wines you tend to think robust and deep flavors that pair with hearty soups, harvest veggies, pumpkin spice everything, snuggly blankets and comfort food. This is Colorado though and it may be almost 80 degrees today and snow 8 inches tomorrow. Fall and winter wines mean something different for us. Where it doesn’t necessarily have to pair with flannel and stew, you do want a wine that is a bit fuller and heartier than your average poolside sipper or the bright sweetness you crave in the heat. With wines ranging from oaky Chardonnay to Viognier, Malbec and Syrah, and Gewürztraminer and Riesling it can become confusing, fast! So where do you start? Wine School will demystify the season and help you understand the best selection for you and introduce you to outstanding varietals like Montepulciano, Tempranillo, and Carignan. You will learn what to look for when you shop for fall and winter wines that you can enjoy until spring and beyond. Our class will begin at 6 with dinner, we have a wonderful meal of Arroz Con Pollo, prepared for you by Susanna’s Comfort Cuisine. Dinner will be paired with a hand-selected Wine by our Sommeliers Sarah and Phil, from Weber Street Liquor. Dessert will follow. Class begins at about 6:30 with our first of at least 6 specially chosen wines. Sarah and Phill will introduce the wines, discuss the regions and origins, and help you understand proper pairing and enjoyment. These wines have been chosen to showcase the exciting variety of wines that fall, and winter bring. Summer wines are often light-bodied, sometimes low-ABV varietals that you can chill, while fall and winter present wines that warm taking the chill out of the air, or do they? This class is not focused on one region or flavor, allowing us to explore reds and whites, and even sweet and dessert wine offerings. This is the most exciting time of the year for wine tasting and exploring and our journey will zig- zag around the globe helping us to learn even more. Dinner with wine (or other beverage), a focused tasting of more than 6 wines, giveaways and more for only $50. Whistle Pig schools are known for their teaching, fun, community, great food, and being over the top. Bring your friends, get a sitter, and make it a date night. Or, like many of our past attendees, come and make new friends, either way, we look forward to seeing you and learning about the best wines of the year, fall and winter. Join us October 19 at Whistle Pig Brewing.
