This SIBBA Symposium is a unique opportunity to attend diverse sessions led by experienced black belts. The day will start off will an informal referee seminar in the morning and the afternoon will be filled with educational, yet fun, learning opportunities. Please join us. Attendees will be able to select three sessions to attend. For those interested in upping their referee skills and knowledge, there is an additional referee session for red belts and higher in the morning. Most of these classes are introductory and martial arts' experience is not required. If you enjoy martial arts, looking to learn something new, or simply want to kick and have a great workout, then this session is for you. Master Suzie Walgrave is a 5th degree black belt and national coach. She is a 4x national champion, international medalist, and winner of the 2017 U.S. Open; coached and trained by Olympian Juan Moreno and the Peak Performance Team. She has been a proud member of the YC Pak family since 1989 and currently trains with GM Wes Grieme in Luverne, MN. Judo Referee Seminar - Grand Master Steve Scheid Grand Master Scheid is/was Grand Master Pak __________________________ Session 1 Options - 10:20-11:20 AM Competitive Poomsae - Master Alexis Redeker – This session will be a refresher or assist the poomsae athletes in their techniques and flexibility. Master Redeker is a 3rd Degree Taekwondo Black Belt who has competed nationally and internationally in Poomsae. She will adjust the class to her attendees. Taekwondo uniforms are preferred, but not mandated. This course will be for orange belts and up. Taekwondo uniforms are preferred but students can wear street clothes if they choose. Judo Sparring - Emiliano Saucedo Goldschmied - Emiliano will be going over certain movements and techniques that can be useful to learn and have in your arsenal or keep in mind for competition judo and learning purposes as well as different gripping sequences and breaks that will help you better your judo and will explain these things in detail. Emiliano is a current USA Judo team member and has competed in various European cups. He is also a national medalist. Previously Emiliano had also participated in the cadet and junior(u21) world championships in 2018 for the Mexican national team as well as 5 times Mexican national champion. __________________________ Session 2 Options - 11:30-12:30 PM Kettlebells/Kickboxing - Master Anne Neumann - This will be an introduction to kettlebells and kettlebell kickboxing. This is designed to help you with mobility, stability, power and endurance. Master Neumann is a third degree Taekwondo Black Belt and a Certified Kettlebell Instructor. Preferred attire is workout clothes but can be done in a Taekwondo uniform. This will be for all belt ranks and ages. If you have a kettlebell that you want to bring, that would be helpful. Ages 7 and up. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Beginner - Professor Jon Trizila– Mr. Jon Trizila currently serves as the owner, as well as head instructor of Jiu-Jitsu and Tactical Weapons at The American School of Karate and Judo (ASKJ) in Elkhorn, Nebraska. He began his training at ASKJ in 1988 and holds the rank of 4D Black Belt under GM John Byrne. Mr. Trizila earned his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served 10 years as a Stinger Missile Platoon and Battery Commander, Weapons Training Battalion Company Commander, and as the Officer in Charge of the Marine Corps Shooting Team; serving one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan. He considers himself a life-long student of the Martial Arts with a passion of sharing knowledge with others. Mr. Trizila began studying Judo in 2002 at the University of Nebraska where he attained 1st Degree Brown Belt under Sensai Rich Miller. He was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2006 and currently holds the rank of Black Belt Professor under Master Luiz Palhares. Throughout his life and time in the Marine Corps, he's taken every opportunity to train with martial artists and professionals in their various skill-sets. In 2012 he began training Pikiti-Tirsia Kali and Cabales Serrada Escrima, and currently holds the rank of Guru. Mr. Trizila also became a 2nd Degree Instructor Trainer in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) prior to exiting active duty in 2015. __________________________ Session 3 Options - 1:25 - 2:25 PM Nunchucks - Master Rachel San Agustin – This session will serve as an introduction to fundamental nunchuck techniques. Master San Agustin is a 3rd Dan Black belt who has taught nunchucks to students as young as 6 years old during her time at American Martial Arts Academy – Naperville, performed with nunchucks in numerous taekwondo demonstrations, and has competed in nunchucks at various tournaments, including the U.S. Open Hanmadang. (Ages 7 and up) Practical Self Defense - Kassidy Becker - This lesson will be an introduction and overview of basic self defense offering a wide range of defensive levels. Self defense is not a duty to perform, but a right to learn. Kassidy Becker is a first degree recommend in Hapkido who has been leading the Self Defense Seminar hosted by the Hapkido group of the Martial Arts club at ISU since 2018. This class is designed for 16 years old and up. __________________________ Session 4 Options - 2:35-3:35 PM Yoga - Master Irene P. Faass - The Western practice of yoga is informed by Vedic traditions from ancient India. As a mind-body practice, it supports holistic health and wellness. A regular yoga practice can supplement a martial artist’s practice by focusing on breath and positions/shapes (asana) that help to stretch muscles and joints and increase flexibility. Dr. Master Faass earned her 4th Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo from Grand Master Pak, has been practicing yoga for almost 3 decades, and has completed Core Power Yoga’s 200-hour teacher training program and Street Yoga’s trauma-informed teaching program. Comfortable workout clothes preferred. If you have a yoga mat you want to bring, that would be helpful.
