Our gardens have been working hard to produce for us all through the summer and it's time to give them a rest!
Come to this hands-on workshop at our Demonstration Garden and learn about the steps you should take to winterize your vegetable garden and protect your soil during the cold wet months ahead. And while it's too late for planting vegetable starts or seeds for a 2022 harvest, it's the perfect time for planting garlic bulbs that will be harvestable in early summer of 2023!
During this workshop we will discuss:
- Which crops should be removed/left in the garden for Fall
- How to use straw mulch to protect your soil from compaction/erosion during winter weather
- The benefits and drawbacks of using cover crops in your home garden
- Different types of garlic and how to plant them for a successful harvest in 2023
- What to do in late winter to prepare your soil for spring planting
Everyone who attends the garden winterization workshop will leave with their own garlic for planting at home!
The registration fee is on a sliding scale with suggested donation of $5-$50. All are welcome. Come get your hands dirty!!!
