Description
MOCHA Family Wellness Fair is a new health equity community event centering on BIPOC pregnant families and increasing their physical activity during pregnancy and beyond! A day to focus on your pregnancy and physical activity. Expect to spend the afternoon enjoying the Morningside Park walkways, local vendors, and fresh and healthy foods, along with connecting with fellow pregnant black indigenous women of color. We aspire to help families focus on the importance of their physical health before, during, and after pregnancy. By connecting families to community resources and promoting minority-owned businesses and organizations, we aim to distribute and share educational materials to assist the public in better understanding the importance of doulas and how to utilize them in our community. What To Expect: Raffles and incentives given away every hour!Festive activities for children to practice their gross motor skills, explore art, and an opportunity for families to spend time with one another!A guided walk with dedicated vendor stops to connect participants with resources that address maternal health and well-being!Local vendors and businesses that support pregnant families with resources to help them be born live, learn, work, play, worship, and age!Yummy food, warm beverages, and watering stations for hydration throughout the event! This FREE family-friendly event is hosted by the MOMCHA Program led by Program Manager, Esther McCant, CEO of Metro Mommy Agency. Metro Mommy Agency serves pregnant families with essential birth doula support for childbirth and postpartum, breastfeeding support, mentorship program, and consulting for various organizations working to improve the lives of parents and babies. Through the MOMCHA Program, we seek to create a doula referral system and increase doula access for vulnerable populations in federally qualified health care centers. Did you know that black indigenous people of color (BIPOC) expectant families tend to experience the highest rates of infant mortality, maternal mortality, morbidity, and pregnancy-related complications?
